Following the ID One that Cartier released a couple of years ago, the ID Two shows the level of innovation that the watchmaking industry could see in few years.

Let's see what's new starting from the 42 mm case which uses the style case of the Calibre line and it is
made from Ceramyst or transparent
polycrystalline ceramic. There are no screws to hold the case together. Instead, the case is vacuum sealed. No air in it which means reduced friction, less need for lubrification and overall improved efficiency. This is truly a fantastic innovation.
Such air-free environment allows to fully take advantage of other innovations that help to store as much energy as possible and minimize consumption. To maximize energy storage and deliver more stable torque, the ID Two uses double barrels, with a pair of fiberglass springs stacked in each of the barrels. The springs are covered with an ultra-thin layer of pore-free, transparent polymer film, removing the need for lubricants completely.
To take full advantage of the ability to store more power, it is then important to transfer it efficiently to both the gear train and the oscillator.
The gear train - which drives the hand of the ID Two - is characterized by a central wheel accompanied by moving shafts orbiting around the center together with the gears and pinions to which they are fixed. Thanks to this architecture higher rates of transfer between gears are possible. Moreover, gears are not in steel but in carbon crystal-coated silicon, which is anti-magnetic, anti-corrosive, and 60% harder and 70% lighter than steel. In this way, the gear train produces 1/5th the friction of typical timepieces.
The anchor and
the escape wheel are constructed of carbon crystal and manufactured
using DRIE (Deep Reactive Ion Etching) technology which allows micromechanical components to be made with single micron precision.
The oscillator is made of Carbon crystal oscillator with Zerodur®2 -a zero expansion material-hairspring. The lightweight oscillator can take full advantage of the vacuum sealed case so that there is almost no air resistance. The result is that the ID Two oscillator consumes 37% less energy
than a traditional watch and delivers a record 32-day power reserve.
