Cartier reveals the new Tank à Guichets

Every year, Cartier expands its exclusive Cartier Privé collection with a new edition, offering a fresh interpretation of one of the Maison’s iconic timepieces.

In 2025, for Watches and Wonders Geneva (April 1-7), the spotlight is on the Tank à Guichets (Tank with Apertures).

First introduced in 1928, the Tank à Guichets presents a simple yet captivating digital time display.

Time is revealed through two discreet apertures—jumping hours and dragging minutes—with the traditional dial replaced by a streamlined, all-gold case featuring clean lines and harmonious proportions.

The first drawings of the Tank watch appeared in 1917, showcasing a sleek case aligned with the strap, parallel brancards, and a winding crown at 3 o'clock. The key idea was to design a wristwatch that allowed the wearer to read the time quickly, easily, and at a glance.

By removing the hands, the watch displayed the time through two apertures: one for the hours and one for the minutes. This Tank model is considered the first to be equipped with a complication.

Throughout the 1930s, Cartier produced several Tank à Guichets models, exploring various design elements—from the shape of the apertures to the integration of the brancards with the case, the placement of the crown, and the choice of materials.

The new Tank à Guichets watch is powered by the hand-wound 9755 MC movement, a 3 Hz calibre crafted for this timepiece to enable jumping hours and dragging minutes. Like the original, the winding crown is positioned at 12 o’clock.

The satin-finish case contrasts with the polished horizontal brancards, enhancing the watch’s silhouette. The central face is available in brushed gold or platinum. The case measures 37.6 mm x 24.8 mm, with a thickness of 6 mm. It does not offer water resistance.

This new interpretation offers two distinct styles. The first model revisits the 1928 design, with the hour aperture at 12 o’clock and the minute aperture at 6 o’clock. This version is available in yellow gold, rose gold, or platinum, with Arabic numerals and the minute track in green, dark grey and burgundy, respectively.

The second platinum model, limited to a numbered edition of 200 pieces, features the two apertures positioned at an angle, paying tribute to a 1930s design. The Arabic numerals and the minute track are represented in burgundy.

The new Cartier Tank à Guichets are priced at €52,500 in yellow or rose gold, €61,000 for the standard version in platinum, and €67,500 for the 200-piece limited edition. cartier.com
